Murphy Radio Model A122M From 1949

Introduced in 1949 was the A122M, a baffle receiver based on the A122 from 1947. The cabinet is nearly identical to the A122, except that the speaker grille no longer has the cigar shaped cut-outs that matched the tuning scale. This time rather more conventional rectangular cut-out’s have been used, with a single large expanse of cloth protecting the speaker. This cabinet is perhaps more friendly on the eye than the 1947 version. Possibly the 122 chassis was introduced again to complement the newer baffle receivers (‘124 and ‘130 series) which were smaller and as a result gave a noticeably worse audio performance. The introduction of the A122M afforded Murphy the opportunity to feature a baffle receiver in their product range with better sound quality without incurring further development and tooling costs.
